Once Air Training Command had their hooks in you that was it. ![]() It ended up not mattering since they decided to make me a T-38 instructor. Plus I knew that nobody asked for an F-111 so I figured it gave me a better shot at a fighter. I enjoyed low level flying more than I liked pulling G’s and I thought it was a cool airplane. I actually had the F-111 first on my dream sheet. Pretty much everybody’s pilot training “dream sheet” went: F-15, F-16, F-4 with the A-10 or F-111 somewhere in the last two spots. Mostly because it didn’t do air-to-air, and that’s what the fighter types want to do. I’d guess it was something more like “F*ck you Yankees! Stop bombing us!”ĭuring my days in the USAF, this was the plane nobody really wanted to fly. I tend to take these stories with a large grain of salt. Legend has it the Vietnamese called it “whispering death”. It carried enough gas to not need tanker support and it didn’t need standoff ECM (Electronic Countermeasure) support. The F-111 returned to Vietnam in 1972 and was highly successful, with only six combat losses for 4,000 sorties flown. Not a very auspicious start to an already troubled aircraft. Initial combat tests in Vietnam in 1968 resulted in the loss of three (out of six) aircraft due to a fault in the horizontal stabilizer. Note: don’t ever get the Brits started on the TSR-2. The otherwise excellent F-14 used the same engines and this proved to be its Achilles Heel. Unfortunately the TF-30 engines were rather susceptible to compressor stalls. An F-111 could actually cross the Atlantic without air refueling. This was possibly the first fighter to use a turbofan engine rather than a turbojet. I know one person that had to eject from an F-111 and he spent some time in the hospital with back injuries. The capsule would float, which was a plus. ![]() ![]() Apple’s not exercising Best Practices in my humble opinion but everyone knows the Apple knows what’s best for us, the Apple is here to help us, the Apple will keep you safe, the Apple is good, trust the Apple.īut seriously, the update works just fine for me.Īt some point a few versions ago, this app started telling me it no longer works with my iPod Touch 5th generation, presumably because iOS won't update. Apple has stopped supporting all things Apple Airport but as of this review are still selling airport products. if I didn’t know I updated the app I wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between the two versions. I went through several areas in the app, NAT setting, port forwarding, etc. ![]() The WiFi scanner is still present and works fine, (I’d seen a few comments saying the upgrade broke or removed the WiFi scanner). it seemed to launch normally, in fact it was fine! After testing several features I could not find any issues or even any changes. Once I realized what I’d done, with great hesitation I launched the app and held my breath. Unfortunately I accidentally did update the app while I was updating other apps. on my iPad, which is what I use for pretty much everything apple based on the terrible reviews this update 1.3.6 was getting. I had no intentions on upgrading/updating this app. It’s not the most in-depth router management tool but, it’s the only router management tool available to manage an Apple Airport product. I’ve been using this app to manage my AirPort Extreme for years. Finally, when we are using access restrictions for one or two devices, it somehow seems to gum up the works for every other device in the house as well. ![]() This app does not provide anything even close that sort of immediacy. I also would like to be able to have a quick way to force wifi off for my kid's tech quickly and easily, like "stop access now and for the next x hours, just this one time" or similar. One must program 10p-11:59 then 12am to 7am on a separate "restriction." Some better, more visually intuitive examples of setting up access restrictions and permissions exist in other areas - this piece needs work. Also, it is set on a 24 hour day, so there is not one easy way to say no wifi all night, starting at 10pm on one day and going till 7am the next. Once one gets to the point of programming the access restriction, it is actually a bit confusing whether one is delineating times wifi is allowed or not allowed. This is possible but awkward, requiring many clicks. I want to program in when my kid can't get wifi on their phone and laptop. However, the interface is not especially intuitive and this really shows up in the design/setup for limiting wifi access. This app allows interfacing with the AirPort, which is helpful.

Birthday candles are the same as a blazing fire. What does that mean you are telling your brain when you engage in these behaviors? You are reinforcing the brain’s idea that you must be in danger. ![]() Now consider that your compulsive behaviors are your attempts to keep yourself safe when that alarm goes off. This is one of the cruelest parts of this disorder. Unfortunately, with OCD, your brain tells you that you are in danger a lot, even in situations where you “know” that there is a very small likelihood that something bad might happen. When your anxiety “goes off” like an alarm system, it communicates information that you are in danger, rather than “pay attention, you might be in danger.” OCD takes over your body’s alarm system so that instead of only warning you of real danger, that alarm system begins to respond to any trigger (no matter how small) as an absolute, terrifying, catastrophic threat. But, imagine what would happen if your fire alarm went off every time you burnt a piece of toast or blew out birthday candles? That’s what happens in OCD. If your fire alarm goes off, what does it mean? The alarm is there to get your attention and prompt you to take action to protect yourself and your family. Think of anxiety as your body’s alarm system. You will get better at managing “everyday” levels of risk and uncertainty. ![]()

![]() ![]() While Plato had high hopes that the Thirty Tyrants would restore stability, rationality, and intelligence to Athens, his hopes were dashed. So too, Plato’s great uncle, Critias, was a member of the Thirty Tyrants, an Athenian puppet government set up by Sparta after they finally emerged victorious from the Peloponnesian War. In fact, Plato’s father was a member of the oligarchic Council of 300 that, after the Athenians’ defeat at Sicily, overthrew the radically democratic assembly that was in power at the time. Being part of the powerful upper crust, they were suspicious of democracy, particularly the radical form of it encouraged by Pericles. Plato’s family and relatives were aristocrats and held prominent positions in the Athenian government. The dual scourges of war and disease destabilized an already chaotic Athens, leading to endless political power struggles, some of which involved his closest kin. Plato not only grew up witnessing the conflict between these two city-states, but also had a front row seat to the strife that roiled the citizens in his own backyard.
